The Lake Country Fire Department is participating in Fire Prevention Week TM (FPW), October 8-14, 2023. This year’s FPW campaign is “Cooking safety starts with you. With the support of the District of Lake Country, Larratt Aquatic Consulting has received $25,000 from the Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB) grant program for their Wood Lake – What’s At Stake and What We Can Do About It? project. OBWB has a Water Conservation and Quality Improvement Grant program that provides funds to local governments and other organizations for projects that conserve and protect water. Campfire Ban ends for Central Okanagan

Effective September 28, 2023, the ban on campfires has been lifted in most Central Okanagan areas. Campfires are not permitted at any time within the City of Kelowna. 

The ban on campfires within local government fire jurisdictions in the Central Okanagan has been in place since June.  Recent showers and cooler, seasonal temperatures have lowered the potential fire danger rating. The Council of the District of Lake Country will be considering adoption of Tax Exemption Bylaw 1213, 2023 for a five-year term. The tax exemption applies to the taxation period commencing in 2024, beginning January 1, 2024 and ending December 31, 2028. The meeting of Council is to be held October 17, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers, Lake Country Municipal Hall. 2023 Fall Open burning season delayed in Central Okanagan

The start of open burning in the Central Okanagan is being delayed this fall.

Local fire chiefs for Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Regional District of Central Okanagan and West Kelowna have agreed to hold off issuing any outdoor burning permits due to the ongoing fire danger. Fire chiefs continue to monitor conditions and will reevaluate issuing outdoor burning permits in mid-October.
