Xeriscape garden collaboration gets recognition from BC Communities in Bloom

The Little Piece of Lake Country garden has been evolving since it was first installed as a Canada 150 feature garden in 2017 on the northeast corner of the property at Lakewood Mall, visible from Highway 97 across from Parkway Gas. With the significant efforts of the Lake Country Garden Club in collaboration with the District of Lake Country Parks team, it has now become a feature example xeriscape garden with a pollinator hotel.

Wildfire Community Appreciation:

Residents are invited to stop by the Winfield Arena (front lobby) to view notes of appreciation and artwork the community kindly dropped off throughout and after the wildfires. “Thank you” two-minute video can be seen here.

Lake Country, BC  -- Park users have been wondering what happened at Jack Seaton Park and why the maps and wayfinding signs have been removed from two of the information kiosks and a number of trail marking posts throughout the park.

Two months have already passed since the McDougall Creek fire ripped through Lake Country, impacting, and changing the course of many lives in Okanagan Centre.    

Community members have dropped off cards, artwork and banners to Station 71 and Municipal Hall, to show appreciation for the uncompromising effort and sheer determination of the Lake Country Fire Department. Open Burning Permits now available in Lake Country

Effective October 16 restrictions for open burning in the Central Okanagan have been lifted and permits are available for eligible property owners from their local fire service. Permits holders can burn outdoors on days when both air quality and venting indices are good.

Normally, permits run from October 1 through April 30. This year, the start was delayed across the region because of the high fire danger rating.
