As creatures of habit and routine we love our regular walks on trails around the community. Have you ever gone out for a hike or walk, only to find a favourite trail (or part of one) has been rerouted or removed? It might be annoying, but it’s almost always for user safety or preservation of habitat.
“Decommissioning” a trail -- to remove it from active status -- is usually accompanied by the development of safer or more accessible trails nearby to offer a better overall trail user experience.

The District of Lake Country has been awarded the 2023 Organizational Safety Excellence Award for the third year in a row. The BC Municipal Safety Association (BCMSA) recognizes local governments for activities that improve their experience rating and ultimately reduce injuries, illness, disease and fatalities with this award. The award was presented to Sarah Goodwin, Occupational Health & Safety Specialist, at the BCMSA/PWABC Joint conference, who accepted the award on behalf of the District.

The District of Lake Country is exploring methods to improve transit and mobility options in Lake Country with the objective of increasing transit ridership. The project involves outreach to residents, youth, seniors, businesses, to determine how transit services could be best delivered in the future to serve local needs. The project team is inviting transit riders to provide input through a one-hour online facilitated engagement workshop. The virtual workshop will be held on Thursday November 9

Dog owners in the District of Lake Country have cause for ap-paws with the return of seasonal use of two regional parks.
Between November 1, 2023, to the end of March 2024, the RDCO will allow off-leash use in Kopje Regional Park and on-leash use in Kaloya Regional Park, with the exception of the beach and playground areas. The program increases year-round access to parks where dogs are not usually permitted and aligns with the Regional District’s strategic priorities.
