Lake Country residents may notice smoke and burn piles on provincial crown lands on the east side of Spion Kop above The Lakes neighbourhood. The Ministry of Forests wildfire fuel mitigation treatment of 107 hectares is designed to reduce potential intensity of future wildfire behaviour. I can say with certainty that 2023 has been a year of resiliency and resolve in the Lake Country community. 

We saw the community come together and support one another in unprecedented ways during the wildfire in August. The Lake Country firefighters have just completed their annual Food Bank campaign to support residents in our community as the demand for food assistance continues to grow. Lake Country Municipal Hall will be closed for the holidays Monday, Dec. 25 through Monday, Jan. 1, reopening at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
